RDQLUS Featured Work: ACO '08-'09 Season Brochure

I love to collaborate with other amazing fellow creatives & studios on some really great projects. As a matter of fact, it's one of the mainstays of how I operate and work. Enter Tribecca Designs out of the New York City area, and my good friend Rebecca Leigh Brian. RDQLUS got the call to take the reigns on very cool project; The 2008-09 season brochure for the American Composers Orchestra out of New York City, NY.

The ACO is an innovative orchestra that features young up and coming composers who have created new works that push the often staunch boundaries of typical Classical music. Their main program theme is "Orchestra Underground", setting a definite mood right away. Visuals, new instrumentation and genre-bending compositions are the norm for this leading-edge orchestra. With their main venue being the famed Carnegie Hall in New York, they also play venues in Philadelphia.

The challenge of the brochure design was to bring a wealth of information regarding the season together with a freestyle, unhinged graphical look that was as loud and challenging as the orchestra itself might be. A standout piece that needed to be highly functional. After all—on both counts—it is NYC. to top it all off, not only did the piece need to stand alone, but it had to fit postal regulations as a direct mail piece also. In the end, it couldn't look like a brochure for a stodgy symphony orchestra company. The contrast of very warm, deep color and sharp, citrus highlight tones gives the feel of a traditional night of cultured music with the surprise and excitement of something fresh and new.

As of this posting, the piece was a huge success being well-received with patrons making for a very happy end-client, a great collaboration with a respected colleague for fine studio and a piece that all involved are very proud of.

My thanks and respect to Rebecca Leigh Brian and Tribecca Designs.
